Evaluation of Amazon Firecracker

Firecracker is a new lightweight virtualization approach (MicroVM) developed by Amazon for their serverless computing platform AWS Lambda. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate this technology in comparison to other virtualization and container approaches in terms of performance, ease of use, and security aspects.

Tasks:

• Identify a set of candidate solutions to be compared with Firecracker
• Analyse the design and functionality offered by these approaches
• Devise an appropriate methodology for comparison
• Perform a systematic assessment and comparison, including measurements on several platforms
